In the heart of Kerr County, a local nonprofit is reimagining what play can mean for children.
Kerr Kids was born in the aftermath of the devastating July 4th flooding along the Guadalupe River. When rising waters took the lives of campers and families and destroyed nearly everything in their path—playgrounds, splash pads, biking and hiking trails, river access—children were left without the spaces that once brought joy and comfort.

Kerr Kids began as an immediate relief effort, creating opportunities for children to gather, play, and heal in the face of loss. What started as temporary play days quickly revealed a much bigger need: a permanent play space where kids could rebuild resilience, find comfort, and simply be kids again.
To make this vision a reality, Kerr Kids is on the hunt for comfort toys and play-based donations that can nurture children now and help fund silent auctions supporting their permanent space.

The dream is nothing short of magical:
-
A pretend play town where children can role-play real-world adventures.
-
Sensory toys that soothe and engage children of all abilities.
-
Imaginative play items that spark creativity and storytelling.
-
STEM-related toys that encourage problem-solving and exploration.
-
Or any donation that can bring joy to a child or help fund the dream of a permanent play space.
-
Each toy, whether placed directly into a child’s hands or featured in a fundraiser, helps rebuild childhood after loss and build a brighter future for this community’s kids.
Kerr Kids invites toy makers, shops, and supporters alike to join in. By sharing toys that heal, inspire, and empower, you’re not just donating an item—you’re helping turn a post-disaster relief effort into a lasting legacy of play and resilience.

Together, we can turn heartbreak into healing and give children along the Guadalupe River a future full of play, hope, and resilience.
Editors Note: At Toy Store Guide we know how great, inclusive, and encouraging the toy community is. When we heard about the work being done in the name of children and play after such a devastating event we thought it prudent to help in sharing the story of perseverance in the community.
