“A Very Chubzzy Grand Opening” and other Updates!

Toy Store Guide strives to introduce new and different Toy Stores to as often as possible. Our crew gets excited to show off unique toy stores around the country and around the world. Sometimes we have to go back and make changes and update the stores that we already feature. While not as exciting as adding a new toy store destination, keeping the list of toy stores as accurate as possible is important.

Often the updates are small, new hours and such. BUT SOMETIMES THE UPDATES ARE BIG. The big updates come when a Toy Store moves locations. Usually when a store moves it is because they outgrew the spot that they were in, or they found a great new place. It seems the best answer to opening your own store is to start small and be ready for rapid expansion.

Recently Chubzzy Wubzzy Toys & Collectibles outgrew the store they opened just a few years ago, so they found a new space, with more room (and more parking). Chubzzy couldn’t not throw a Grand Opening of his new location and Jerry T. of the Toy Store Hunters was on hand for the festivities.

Chubzzy Wubzzy Toys & Collectibles

The Wubzzy’s threw a heck of a party… The Little Falls Mayor and town council members held a ribbon cutting which was attended by many toy collectors and other special guests.

Some top talent from the world of cosplay were on hand including Joshua Marchese @cjpropstudio as Merciless, the Batman of Earth -12 and Critical Mask  @critical.mask.cosplay whose Batman Who Laughs costume is known throughout the cosplay community. Other characters included The Scarecrow, a Ghostbuster, and the Chubzzy & Mrs. Wubzzy themselves dressed in their uniforms. Of course we were there with our official Toy Store Mobile to witness the craziness.

While at the opening Jerry @toystorehunters caught up with Marqus Aycart (aka: @THESUPERQOOL) a fellow toy and collectible enthusiast. Marqus is a web developer and graphic designer who has designed much of the branding for Chubzzy WubzzyHis work takes him all over the country, but Aycart also enjoys traveling specifically for his collecting hobby. Like anyone who frequents this site he will always go out of his way to visit any Toy Store in the area. This is something that Marqus has affectionately coined as “Toy Tripping”. Recently his travels had him in Nashville, Tennessee, where he stopped at Totally Rad Toyhouse

“Toys and Collectibles are a must, they’re a tangible piece of nostalgia, and fantasy. We live in a world that is super complex and sometimes confusing – so a little bit of nostalgic escape to when life was simpler and so much fun, is much needed. Collect, connect, smile, and share the fun!”

 – Marqus Aycart

Since the launch of Totally Rad Toyhouse has moved three times, more than any other store. The owners are among the most amazing people you could find in the toy community. I asked Toyhouse owner LJ about moving so often and she had this to say…

“For us, moving has been about growing and finding our groove. We want to always make sure the trip to visit us is worth it and that means safer parking and areas around the shop to visit, so we hope that comes across to those who have followed us.”

It would seem that Totally Rad Toyhouse have continued to find that groove in each of their moves. Stay tuned to Marqus Aycart’s socials for a video look at the latest incarnation of a Totally Rad Toyhouse. If you want to get to know more about Totally Rad Toyhouse and it’s owners LJ and Mathew check out Season 4 of “A Toy Store Near You”.

Speaking of the Nacelle Company, at Chubzzy’s I was able to add another stamp to my Passport to The Toy Stores of The World! This is a passport book that many local toy stores sell and we as collectors can carry and collect stamps during our adventures “ToyTripping”.

Sometimes moving is not the choice of the store owner. Cherry Bomb Toys in Victoria, BC, Canada loved their location, a location that also held the National Toy Museum of Canada. But the owner of the space they rented sold the building and the new owner had other ideas. So Cherry Bomb was forced to relocate. They very recently opened the new location so look for updates to their Toy Store Guide profile coming soon! Ohh, and if you want to get a feel for Cherry Bomb Toys and the family that runs it check out the first season of “A Toy Store Near You”.

The Moral of Today’s Story Is:

It doesn’t matter where the store is, it is the people who make it special. We all know we started collecting for the toys, but most of us have continued because of the people we have met and adventures we’ve had along the way. People like fellow collectors and of course the toy store owners. Adventures like driving for hours to visit a toy store or spending the afternoon at a Grand Opening. Like Marqus said, “Collect, connect, smile, and share the fun!”
